The City of Oxnard's Public Works Department is seeking a Principal Operator to become part of the Water Division Team. The Advanced Water Principal Operator is part of the Oxnard Water Division Team and reports directly to the Advanced Water Treatment Operations Manager. This position is a member of a dedicated service oriented team where collaboration, leadership and growth are promoted at all levels. The Water Division's priority is to provide safe and reliable drinking water to our customers and the highest level of customer service.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Payroll/Classification Title: Plant Operator, Principal SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion. Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Plant Operator, Senior in that it performs advanced journey-level plant operations and plant maintenance work and may serve as lead worker by assigning and reviewing work and providing guidance to others in the absence of a Shift Coordinator. WORK SCHEDULE: The normal City work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Fridays 8:00am-5:00pm. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to shifts that are outside the standard City work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs and perform on-call duties. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification: EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED EXPERIENCE: Three years of water treatment or wastewater treatment or advanced water treatment plant operation experience LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record may be required Valid California State Water Resource Control Board T3 Certificate or CWEA Wastewater Operator 3 Certificate or Advanced Water Treatment 3 Certificate upon hire OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to speak and understand English to effectively communicate with fellow employees, customers, and vendors
