**Description**
Join the #1 non-asset based 3PL in the country and become a Carrier Sales Representative for Transplace, Inc. You will be eligible to earn a monthly bonus, in addition to your base salary, in your first full calendar month and enjoy a work environment that is tough but fun! We are looking for strong relationship builders, those who enjoy an extremely fast paced environment, can multitask, negotiate profitably and have analytical skills.
**PRIMARY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES**
* Develop strong carrier relationships
* Effectively communicate within a team environment
* Carrier negotiation
* Financial procedures and operating metrics
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS**
* Effective communicator- contact carriers daily by phone to solicit freight needs, learn where they have capacity needs (today and in the future) and input into the Brokerage software system
* Ability to analyze and understand freight markets- be knowledgeable of factors that impact freight markets. Ability to proficiently utilize Excel
* Strong carrier relationship builder- follow up with carriers regularly via phone, email and mail in order to build core and dedicated carriers from spot carriers (Carrier Appreciation- thank carriers for working with us, sent them analytics around their service and ask for referrals for other carriers they might know who runs in specific lanes)
* Understanding of modes, equipment and customer requirements
* Transportation mode knowledge a plus
* Understanding of margin and margin maximization with carriers- ability to analyze carrier load history to leverage margin and have negotiation skills
* Understanding of freight network/lanes- know what internal freight lanes we run and find carriers that match these lanes
* Understanding of carrier supply and demand and spot market pricing
* Carrier profile management- Learn carrier requirements, needs, contacts and update carrier profiles regularly. Be an advocate for the carrier on all levels
* Bilingual/Multilingual skills highly sought
* Highly responsible- must have the initiative to make sure all freight is covered each day and have a fire in the belly mentality (never satisfied)
**KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE**
* **Industry Expertise** (Transportation industry knowledge, including key terminology; and, general knowledge of primary customer industries)
* **Transplace Expertise** (Understand and know the Mission, Values and Goals, organizational structure, company history, how we function internally, administration, best practices, processes, behavior, the complete Transplace order-to-cash, etc.)
* **Geographical Expertise** (Geographical understanding of the continental US and Canada. Understanding of mileage as it relates to the passage of time, including DOT & Speed governance), Including Transit time difference based on mode.
* **Transportation Management System** (Working knowledge of the Transportation Management System being utilized
* **Knowledge of Microsoft Tools** (Ability to leverage Excel, including but not limited to Lookup, Pivot Tables and advanced formulas, as well as ability to leverage other MS programs, including Word, Outlook, Lync, etc.)
**SKILLS**
* **Service Orientation** (Commits to and enjoys providing exceptional service to internal and external customers)
* **Basic Math** (Includes aptitude to learn how to calculate mileage as it relates to the passage of time)
* **Negotiating** (Ability to maximize net revenues while operating in the spot market and during periods of tight carrier capacity)
**TRAVEL**
* No travel required.
**EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**
* Four Year College Degree (Equivalent professional exempt work experience may be substituted for degree.)
